Photo by Kamiyah CoxShar’dai Gabrielle (they/them) is a lens based artist working mainly in analog processes. Their work explores grief, memory, spirituality, familial ties, loneliness and Black folks’ business.
They were raised oscillating between several states within the Northeastern and the Southeastern parts of the United States. Because of the constant moving, and the previous forced migration of their ancestors, they are often interrogating the idea of home. There’s a loneliness that they picked up and cradled from childhood. That loneliness shows up in their work, namely their self portraiture.
Innately curious and experimental, they are primarily self-taught, but they are currently furthering their art practice by pursuing a BFA in photography from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD.
